Meeting TopicEquality NOW

One hundred years after passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution which gave women the right to vote, thanks to the efforts of chapter namesake, Alice Paul, the goal of equality remains elusive. Passage of the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution (written by Alice Paul) would further ensure equality but that has not yet happened despite heroic efforts by women’s rights activists for more than 90 years.

While there have been many strides made, gender-based discrimination continues in every facet of our society — in political life, in the workplace, in education, in healthcare and even in the home. In all spaces where women exist and interact, because we often don’t have a seat at the table — “we are still on the menu.” Our representation in the halls of power continues to be paltry, be it in a boardroom or government. It is why we must demand constitutional equality for women. The ERA is needed now just as much as it was ever was.

Anjali Mehrotra is a fierce feminist and activist. Not only is she an advocate fighting for women’s rights, she also works to raise the voices of the marginalized and under-represented in our halls of power. She is currently president of the National Organization for Women of New Jersey and a member of the National NOW Board. Anjali believes in speaking her mind even if her voice shakes!!
